BHAGAVAD GITA CLASSES
"Each chapter of Bhagavad Gita and Mahabharata are like moral lessons.
Do not treat them as mythological stories. If you treat them so, many silly doubts and questions crop up.
Study its inner meaning. Study Bhagavad Gita. Memorize and understand the verses.
It has all the answers for the modern-day perturbed mind."
- Sri Swamiji
The Gita Mahayagnya program was founded in 2015 by Parama Pujya Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji. Since its inception, the program has trained over 3,000 students to memorize and fluently read all 18 chapters of the Bhagavad Gita in just 10 months.
In 2015, Pujya Sri Swamiji expressed a desire to see at least 18 children memorize all 18 chapters of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita during the Karya Siddhi Hanuman temple inauguration in Dallas, Texas. In response, 43 children ranging in age from 7 to 16 years old answered the call, memorizing all 700 shlokas within 10 months and learning the meanings of selected shlokas. This achievement, which was live webcast and televised on various channels in India and the US, inspired the start of the Gita Mahayagnya program and captivated the attention of millions worldwide.
Upon completing the program, including memorizing 700 verses of the Bhagavad Gita and passing final exams, students receive completion certificates. Those who excel in the final exams may also receive medals from Parama Pujya Sri Swamiji. All successful students are also invited to participate in the annual Sampoorna Bhagavad Gita parayana mahāyajña, held in the presence of Parama Pujya Sri Swamiji.
The Gita Mahayagnya program offers a combination of in-person and virtual classes, and has established centers in various countries around the globe. DYC NZ joined the program in 2019, and since then, there have been batches of students who have memorized or learnt to fluently read the Bhagavad Gita every year. The program is currently in its fourth year of teaching in New Zealand, led by locally trained teachers. To date, more than 12 memorizers and 30 fluent readers have completed the Bhagavad Gita program in New Zealand, with more continuing on the journey.
